Gifts For Wife – Earrings Are the Perfect Choice
By William Shepherd
It’s an all too familiar scenario. A husband has the dilemma of choosing gifts for wife. UK husbands should know that earrings are almost always an excellent choice. It’s usually a simple matter to select earrings for her. Here’s some information about the history of earrings and ear piecing that might help you select just the perfect Christmas gift or birthday gift for your spouse.
History of Earrings
The earliest known reference to earrings occurs in wall paintings found in the ancient city of Persepolis. Earrings crafted from precious metals and decorated with gemstones were popular in ancient Rome. During the Middle Ages, the use of jewellery and personal adornment declined sharply until the Renaissance exploded with an energy unprecedented in human history. During the Renaissance, clothing styles drew attention to the face, so earrings became popular again. In the 17th century, both necklines and hairstyles were conducive to the wearing of ornaments in the ear. But in the 18th century, the popularity of hats and bonnets precluded the wearing of earrings. In the early part of the 20th century, women either wore their hair short or in elegant “up dos,” making earrings almost a fashion necessity.
